The Well-Stocked Pantry

Pantry stocking is a must do if you want to succeed on your real food journey.  If you do not have fresh and healthy real food readily available you will likely fall back into your old habits of grabbing whatever is quick and easy.  Real food can be quick and easy too.  But you have to plan for it!

A well-stocked pantry will keep you on track, even when you can’t make it to the store or even if your previously planned for meal no longer works for you.

Once you plan your real food pantry, keeping it stocked is easy with regular maintenance.   If you take the time now to make a master list it will be simple to keep track of things.

If you haven’t done so already this would be a good time to transform your shelves to real foods only.

Are you ready to get started?

The first step is to purge your cupboards, fridge, and freezer of any processed foods.  You can do this as quickly or as slowly as you’d like.  You can grab a large trash bag and start collecting anything and everything that does not meet the real food criteria.  Or you can decide not to replace any of those processed foods as they run out.  That is what I did.  It was a bit slower, but it worked very well.

Okay, now take a moment and remember what you are trying to accomplish. You want enough real foods readily available at all times so you will always be able to make real food meals.  You want to have enough ingredients on hand to make several different meals.  And you want to be able to use what you have on hand so you can save time and money.

I think at this point the best thing to do is to show you what I did and to share with you my master list.  Because you and your family have different food preferences than mine, you don’t have to do everything the same way.  Just use my ideas as an example to get you started.

I used the foodwifery magnet as a guide to make sure I included foods from the 8 different categories.
  • Organic meats & eggs

And I always refer to our fresh fruit and vegetable list whenever I make a grocery list so I make sure to remember to include all the colors of the rainbow.

When I make my weekly shopping list I check my master pantry list and the foodwifery magnet and the fruit and vegetable guide.  I may not have every food at any given time but I at least have something from each different category so I can pull together several meals if need be.

Also remember that your pantry includes what is in your cupboards, your refrigerator, and your freezer.
