Don't Skip the Salad Dressing

Salad dressing is a perfect example of real food.

When prepared properly it is abounding with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.  But it can also be a witch’s brew of chemicals and preservatives.

The best way to get the best product is to make it yourself.  All you have to do is read salad dressing labels and you’ll be convinced.

Store-bought dressings are full of:

Compare that to what you’ll find in what you make yourself:

Pretty obvious, I think.

With all of those good ingredients come vitamins, antioxidants and enzymes which make for an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral dressing for your salad.

And please don’t even think about using a low-fat or no fat salad dressing.  You NEED healthy fats in order to properly digest the fat-soluble vitamins in your salad.

And it will taste so much better!

Making your own salad dressing is easy.  You can be simple or fancy and you can easily experiment with different herbs and spices.  Remember the spices and herbs add more than taste, they add lots of nutrients too!

Salad Dressing Recipe

Here is a sample recipe to get you started.  This is a “go to” and good for those weeknight rushes.

It’s helpful to have a shaker bottle.  I love this one.

It’s so easy to measure the ingredients and it all goes together in no time.

  • 2 Tablespoons of your favorite vinegar
  • ½ Teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ Teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 6 Tablespoons olive or avocado oil
Measure, shake, and enjoy!
